here are the feeds from cmoore - rss, atom. and, feedburner

Haven't posted here in a while

still doing it at cmoore, but recent revelations of discrimination and retaliation against non-anonymous bloggers is having me rethink this.

Had a really strange dream last night. I'm sure part was allegory to my professional situation (and an obvious one at that), but the rest was this really cool terror/surreal thing involving mega sharks and the Cold People. Maybe I'll write a story about it someday. The Cold People have lots of promise.

Ah, to heck with it

installed yet another system at home, tossed the hand-rolled stuff... and now blog cmoore again.

so many places to go... so, so many.

Lefkow Update

Turns out Judge Lefkow ruled in favor of the nutjob who killed her family before being overturned by an appellate court. Just when you thought the nutso couldn't get any more frighteningly psychotic...

Hee

For whatever reason, the google ads on the right last time I looked were advertising for two sites... "Binge Drinking" and "Drinking in College." Hee!

Damn that Liberal Media

O'Reilly on ACLU: "they're a terrorist organization"

This just in: some say O'Reilly sexually harasses the female staff, has fantasies involving loofas and falafel, and settles claims brought against him in court after a lot of blustery denials and empty words of fight-to-the-deathism.

Brooklyn's Abu Ghraib

This one goes out to those fools who said it could never happen here. Abuse amounting to torture of 79 muslims and 5 Israeli jews consisting of sexual abuse, sleep deprivation, exposure to freezing temperatures for extended periods, and frequent unprovoked beatings... all within sight of the Statue of Liberty.

Nice.

Asian Greenhouse Gasses

... are largely caused by home cookin'.

There's a pitch for a McD's if I've ever seen one... except maybe not so much in India. If people would just stop eating, they wouldn't need to cook, and if they stopped cooking they wouldn't have to worry about smog in 50 years. Simple!

Can Someone Tell Me Why This is Noteworthy

From Salon arts:
Diamond heart

In an exclusive excerpt from her new book, "Plan B," Anne Lamott writes about the difficulty and beauty of mothering a teenager
12 billion people have gone through raising a teenager. Whoopdeefuckindoo.

The coming crackdown on blogging?

There's a lot of sturm und drang over potential FEC regulation of internet political speech. Not going to happen. It doesn't pass even a cursory First Amendment sniff test.

Then again, with this administration and Abu Gonzalez in power... I can see how the paranoia might seem reasonable.

People just need to chill the fuck out, step back, and breathe a bit y'know? Ain't nuthin but a muffin... and we've got a lot of butter to go.

More Privacy Intrusions

First the RFID tags on kids in California... now it's random breathalizer sobriety checks?!? Is this really a problem that needs addressing? Wouldn't their time be better served edjucating these monkeys?
District officials said they grew concerned after hearing of rampant student drinking. Teenagers were caught drinking on school trips to Costa Rica and Italy. A drunk student vomited on a bus on the way to a field trip. Then there were students showing up in class drunk, sometimes after having alcohol at lunch.
Sounds like a minor problem with a few students being blown way out of proportion by alarmist chicken littles. Except for the Costa Rica and Italy thing... but what else did they expect?

I guess it's good no one was caught fucking. Then they'd be having random hymen checks in the hallway.

White Supremacists Murder Judge's family

This is truly horrifying. Truly.

Right wingers are the danger to this society, crazy, violent nutjobs. These people are the ones who are destroying our society, the reactionary, rage-fueled idiots of the right. White supremacists kill an 89 year old woman and a hobbled man... because their dear leader lost a trademark case that the man's wife was presiding over. McVeigh? Right winger. Tupelo? Right wingers. I am ashamed that these people and I are part of the same species.

This keeps running through my head:

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Pastor Martin Niemöller
It may not be directly on point, but if putsch comes to shove, I'm putsching back. Hard.

Wolcott Notices Something...

... and I think he is right to be wary.

To whit: the administration and the right are gearing up to try and instigate a war with Iran. With what troops? Who knows. With what plan? Who cares, just attaaaaaack!

Note: I'm not denying that Iran is a dangerous country, what I am commenting upon is the insane power-hungry messianic globaloney of the neocons who think that when you combine an outline of a plan with a bunch of handwaving, you get the result intended. See also, Iraq, Afghanistan, Social Security, global warming.

Now what Wolcott is noticing is that Hezbollah is starting to be framed as the new al Qaeda. So pay attention to your cable news, ladies and germs, and watch for Hezbollah == the evil, bad enemy with sleeper cells ... in your kitchen! cable news reports.

Also, reason #35021 why Lieberman needs to be out of the Dems and out of the Senate:
Lightning out of Lebanon is an eye opener. The book reads like a novel but documents in detail how operatives of what many call the 'A-Team of Terrorism' have taken advantage of our freedoms, legal loopholes, and defense weaknesses to set up support cells in communities all over America. - Lieberman, book blurb for Lightning out of Lebanon (emphasis added)

Google Ads

Thought I'd throw my lot in there, maybe make a couple dollars. Show me some love, yo.

Bankruptcy Bill... power to the peo^h^h^h Banks!

Dionne thinks it's a bill without pity. I think that misses the point. People aren't the issue here, banks and their holdings are. Pity schmity, where's my .001% increase in return?

Look, credit card companies: you give me an unsecured loan. In return for your risk, you get usurious interest rates and inflict gawdawful penalties. That's your get. That's all your get. Why you feel entitled to run to the front of the line at a bankruptcy that you helped create sounds like you've got a little entitlement problem.

Luckily for the banks, the GOP is the business entitlement party. They're lubed and bent over already, you barely even need the reacharound.

Abu Gonzalez Reveals DoJ Priorities

Tell me, does anyone else here see a teeeeensy problem with Abu Gone's DoJ priority list?

  • Ending Senate blocking of judicial nominees, a "broken process that must be fixed" before there is a vacancy on the Supreme Court.
  • Renewing provisions of the USA Patriot Act that are set to expire at the end of the year, saying the law has been an important tool in preventing terror attacks in the United States.
  • Amending the Constitution to give crime victims the right to participate in prosecutions and sentencings.
... Say it with me now, chillin: those are all functions of the legislative branch, not the executive. Abu Gone is not a bright man, but even he should be able to remember enough constitutional theory to know that his job is to enforce - not make - the law.

More Propaganda from the GOP

The GOP has once again released a propaganda video disguised as a news report. This is the third time they have done so, and it has been successful in getting the pieces aired every time. Previously it was the administration, this time it is der Gropenfuhrer.

What are they advocating? Why, the end to lunch breaks of course.

Ladies and gentlemen, your tax dollars at work... to lessen your standard of loving. Ah, the GOP. Bless their evil little hearts.

Lieberman needs to go... now

[E]very sign I see tells me that Sen. Lieberman is looking to cut a deal of some sort with Sen. Lindsey Graham(R) of South Carolina and thus with the White House. It would be a kinder, gentler phase-out. But phase-out just the same.
(via TPM)There is absolutely no reason - NONE - for the Dems to help out the GOP on this one. The phase out plan is unpopular, it doesn't work, and it's bad for the people. The GOP needs one and only one Dem to provide "bipartisan" cover. Why would Joltin Joe "tin ear" Lieberman sign on? Why is he even in the Democratic party? Ass. He goes through with this, and I think there's going to be a new Senator from CT next term.

No retreat, no surrender. When the GOP is drowning, you don't throw them a life preserver, you throw them an anchor.

Farewell to Boo...

...'s nutz.

Sorry, man. I held off as long as I could, but with my travel plans and your needing some doggy day care, they had to go. You're a great dog and I wish you had some offspring, but it just wasn't in the cards.

Coolest dog ever! ... now complete with his own coin pouch.

Why do I have pets again?

Since Boo wasn't at home, I thought I'd leave my bedroom door open and maybe the cats can come take a nappy nap with me while I slept.

Reason #4951 why I close my bedroom door: so the cats don't decide to PEE ON MY COMFORTER while i'm sleeping.

goddamnit. NOT a good way to wake up.
